How do I choose a local mover? ›

As you're searching for a local moving company, check their reviews online. Choose a company with a plethora of positive reviews and read them to learn about previous customers' experiences. Once you have a mover in mind, check with the Better Business Bureau (BBB) to see if they are accredited and have a good rating.

Tipping is entirely optional, but if you want to reward your movers for a job well done you'll have the opportunity to do so in our app, right after your Lugg is completed.

Dolly offers labor-only services, which may be useful if you need help with packing but don't want to hire a truck. Lugg restricts you from traveling in the same vehicle as your stuff and does not offer labor-only services. Ken, on the other hand, offers more freedom in terms of packing and transporting your stuff.

What's the Cheapest Day of the Week to Move? The short answer to this question is that the cheapest day to move is on a weekday — Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. Simply put, most moving companies offer better rates during the week because they aren't as busy then.

Average Cost of Movers Per Hour

The average cost to hire a mover is between $40 and $80 per hour. Most moves need at least two movers to get the job done. However, you should expect to pay between $80 and $400 per hour depending on how many bedrooms you're moving, if you have any specialty items, etc.

It is typically recommended that you tip movers between 10% and 20% of the total moving cost. If you'd like to tip per movers, consider $20 to $30 per person for a local move and $50 per person for long-distance moves.

A tip of 5 to 10 percent is often recommended, and this amount should be given to the entire moving team via the foreman. For example, if you've paid $2000 for your moving services, consider tipping anywhere from $100 to $200.

Although tipping movers is not technically required, it is customary, so we do recommend it. A good rule of thumb is to tip $5 to $10 per person per hour, paid individually rather than as a lump sum. Generally, you will tip the crew members at the end of the move after they have provided their final service.

After your Lugg is complete, we will then charge the card that's associated with your account. You'll also be prompted to leave a rating & review, and optional tip for your crew the next time you open the Lugg app.

Do dolly movers assemble furniture? ›

Dolly also builds basic furniture assembly into its quotes and has a straightforward damage protection policy. The downside? Dolly quotes don't always make it easy to tell if the price is for the entire job or for one hour, and the marketplace is available in only 45 cities.

Your Lugg will arrive within the window you choose in the app. You can schedule up to 30 days in advance or request on-demand to arrive as soon as 30 minutes or 1 hour depending on availability.

All Luggers will arrive with a dolly of some form, moving blankets, stretch wrap, and a screwdriver/drill with basic bits. If anything specific is needed, the customer should have it available for the crew should they need it. We do not provide moving boxes or mattress covers.

Do I need to be at At Home for pick up? No! Just coordinate with the At Home team on where your items can be held, then head home and relax. We'll arrive, pick up your items, and deliver them to your destination.

Luggers will be unable to disconnect or connect your appliances. Please make sure they are disconnected and drained of any water before the Luggers arrive. IMPORTANT: For the safety of the Luggers, your items, and your locations, we do have a weight limit in place of 100 pounds per Lugger, or 200 pounds per crew.

You can negotiate with the company by sharing the lowest estimate you received. Ask them if they can match or beat that price. If it means winning you over as a customer, they just might give you a discount. If they don't, they'll likely explain why their prices are higher than the competition.
