The St. Johns River-to-Sea Loop trail is the longest multi-use loop trail system through the American Southeast. The StJohns River-to-Sea Loop Alliance is spearheading this effort and they operate as a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization.

Located on the east bank of the beautiful and historic St. John's River, the Welaka State Forest offers the public an opportunity to walk and observe wildlife. In addition to numerous trails, the forest maintains an equestrian facility and training center. The trails are part of an extensive network of Florida hiking, biking and equestrian trails.

Believed to have been constructed in c.1842 as a part of the Seminole War era, Fort Shannon's Officers Quarters was in private ownership by the time of the Civil War. It was used as military barracks by Union troops during their occupations of Palatka. Originally located at 224 North 1st Street, the building was relocated to its current site adjacent to the Bronson-Mulholland House in 1984 as part of the Putnam County Historical Society's historic museum complex.
