What is the oldest building at Texas State? ›

The building opened in time for the first classes in fall 1903. As other buildings were added, Old Main served as Texas State's administration building. Old Main now houses the College of Fine Arts and Communication and the School of Journalism and Mass Communication. Old Main has undergone many renovations.

Texas State's main campus consists of 245 buildings on 507 acres (2.05 km²) of hilly land along the San Marcos River.

Texas State University is a public institution that was founded in 1899. It has a total undergraduate enrollment of 33,834 (fall 2022), its setting is suburban, and the campus size is 507 acres. It utilizes a semester-based academic calendar.

Considered to be the oldest town in Texas, Nacogdoches was founded in 1779 by Don Antonio Gil Y'Barbo. This quaint little town is booming with history and stories from years past beginning with the Caddo Indians, who lived in the area before the Spanish, through the present day.

Authorized by the Texas Legislature in 1899, Southwest Texas State Normal School opened its doors in 1903.
